Our first store opened its doors in 1947, back then we were known as Valley Feed & Supply in El Paso, TX.  Our commitment was to provide premium quality pet food delivered with exceptional customer service and care.  Today, our commitment remains the same.    

As we began to serve more customers, in 1997 we changed our name from Valley Feed & Supply to Pet’s Barn.  We were expanding and wanted more customers to know about our commitments.  While our name changed, our commitment did not.    

We were growing by offering our customers premium pet foods from the best national brands. However, over time we realized the quality of the premium pet foods we were offering was not the same.  We were not delivering the same high quality our customers deserved.  We knew change was necessary.

We knew we had to be more responsible for the quality of the pet food we were offering to continue to deliver on our commitment.  So we purchased a pet food factory in Bern, Kansas and moved it to El Paso.  As you can imagine, rebuilding the factory was difficult and success did not come easy, but over time we were able to produce the same premium quality of pet food our customers deserved.  The factory now produces Activa®, Dealer’s Choice and Apetito and these brands were born to be served in Pet’s Barn.  

As you know, our customers were looking for quality treats too.  We listened and in 2006 we purchased a biscuit bakery and today thousands of gourmet treats are produced daily in what eventually would become the Activa Biscuit Baker.  A pet food factory and biscuit bakery were now in El Paso to meet the needs of our customers’ beloved pets.

As we were serving El Paso, there were other surrounding areas that would benefit from our fresh pet food and treats.  And in 2006, we opened our first Pet’s Barn in Alamo City, San Antonio, TX.

After expanding to San Antonio, it was time for more change to improve our products and find ways to better serve our customers. And in 2010, we established that all dogs and cats are different and deserve food that is made for them.  So we introduced Activa® Custom.  Our customers can now customize their pets’ food so it is unique to their dietary needs and tastes.  Yes that’s right, our food can be customized for the specific needs of dogs and cats.

Which brings us to today, as we remain committed to quality pet food delivered with exceptional care.
